Seanan - LRS Brochure & Journalism
Weaving together reflections from his encounter with the LRS children and their families, extensive research into the organization, and photos taken on-site, Seanan helped developed LRS's first informational brochure, which to this day is used for sharing LRS's life-saving work.
Seanan reflects: "In my junior year, I took a quarter off to write about children with congenital heart disease in rural Gansu. I was basically alone - I worked in an office in which I was the only non-local, and had to improvise Mandarin with the fellow office workers. Yet in this completely different world, away from all my friends, I learned as I recorded these children’s stories a deep need about myself: that is, the need to be empowered to help, to make some direct, tangible impact on these people’s lives. Since then, I've remained committed to remembering this need in myself, no matter where life may take me."
Seanan spent 1.5 months in Gansu. The collection of his experiences and reflections can be found on his website: http://heartsofgansu.wordpress.com/.
Annie - LRS Video & Journalism
Over the course of ten days, Annie kept up a journal of her experiences in Gansu. She also took video footages of the people and places she encountered. These video clips will be used towards developing a promotional video for LRS.
Annie reflects: "My time in Gansu was so eye-opening because I had never witnessed such poverty and suffering before. These families’ stories made me realize how fortunate I am, and it made me want to help them and others in their position even more. My experiences in Gansu not only put my own life into perspective but also gave me a renewed drive to pursue a medical career in the hopes that many more people could be cured and given a second chance at life."
