Anyways, I finally had the realization to investigate what the place was and I was warmly welcomed by the staff and residents. It was to my great pleasure that I was allowed to volunteer as an assistant to the staff and "uplift" the spirit.
True to his word, the residents accepted me and I became great friends with one of the seniors. She used to be a college English professor, raised in Michigan, ... she told me so much of her life, it felt like I was reading a great grand novel. Some parts she could not remember! Like where she lived! Other parts she keenly remembered--the first time she went to school for example.
She trusted me enough to ask me over the staff members to walk along with her outside in the patio to see the "chirping birds" and the "blue sky". It was a day I will never forget. I remained in the center the entire day; I plan on visiting my friend and others throughout the school year.
Old people rock.
