I read a little bit more on CNN, abundant with factoids and stats. hundreds of thousands of employees were furloughed. Several important departments such as the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Social Security Administration, Internal Revenue Service, Environmental Protection Agency, Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Transportation, and so many others suffered drastic cuts in employment.
I wish I could say something sweeping and generalize the situation as good or bad... or blame the Congress to be really a bad Congress. But, surprise-surprise, I have learned about the US government intricacies in US history class in school, and I truly appreciate the balance of power. It does not mean that bipartisanship is always a blessing. But health care is a touchy issue. I just hope America can do what it does best: make a compromise and end the shutdown because people's lives depend on it.
