Not only is this solution cruel, it's also extremely unnecessary. The government is stereotyping large dogs. Large dogs are not meaner than smaller dogs. In fact, breeds such as Chihuahuas, Dauschands, and terriers are often more menacing than large breeds like Labradors. "There's no bona fide scientific correlation between size and behavior," said Ms. Peng, a veterinarian.
Instead of creating panic among dog owning citizens, the government should create more humane solutions to their so-called problem. The government should focus on requiring dogs to receive rabies shots and requiring dogs to be spayed or neutered. Neutered dogs are calmer than those who are not neutered.
I understand that news that are reported on newspapers or on the TV are often cruel and sad, but I never thought I would be so shocked by actions that are so unnecessary. I'm a major dog lover, and a strong advocate for animal rights. I have never heard of something violating everything I pretty much believed in. For one, dogs are family, not food or criminals. Just because a dog looks mean, doesn't mean it's actually menacing. Growing up, I was taught to never judge a book by its cover and to never make quick judgements or assumptions. The police are going against morals that kids are taught growing up. Imagine if the roles were reversed and instead of dogs, these were large humans. Imagine the worldwide reaction.
When my dog died, I was devastated. I can't imagine how much worse I would feel if I saw him being dragged away, bloody and beaten to a pulp because he was "large". These dogs are being wrongfully taken away, for all the wrong reasons.
I sincerely hope that this will die down, and the government will realize how pointless this is.
